When it comes to personality archetypes, each one comes with its own set of distinct motivations — and that holds true for astrology, too. You’re more than just your independent zodiac sign, but a culmination of shared motivations. There may be different zodiac signs that, while having stark differences in qualities, have similar mindset in common.

One of these astrological groupings is called modalities: cardinal, mutable, and fixed signs. These zodiac signs share similar processes, sort of like an operating system. Cardinal Signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn)
Cardinal signs take initiative. They’re all about bringing all of their ideas to life. Cardinal signs are not afraid to take the plunge — they’re the leaders, CEOs and trendsetters. Although they’re full of ideas, they tend to have so many projects it’s difficult for them to complete everything.
Mutable Signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces)
Mutable signs adapt to any situation. They have a unique ability to bob and weave during challenging times and persevere through chaos. Since mutable signs are so flexible, they work best as editors, journalists, and innovators. On the other hand, they can feel stagnant in a place that is too monotonous or lacks excitement.
Fixed Signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius)
Fixed signs bring things to completion. They’re headstrong and have staying power. It’s important for fixed signs to be in a role where they can exercise their independence because they like to see all of their ideas prosper and manifest, even if they do it by themselves. These are the entrepreneurs, creatives, and freelancers. However, they tend to find team collaboration complicated and challenging.
